Former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana left-back Tsepo Masilela has urged his former club to make a move for Golden Arrows attacker Junior Dion, believing the Ivorian-born forward could add much-needed strength to an attack affected by injuries and inconsistent performances.
Speaking to Peter Du Toit on SoccerBeat, Masilela highlighted the regular absences of Etiosa Ighodaro and Khanyisa Mayo, while also pointing to Flavio Silva’s struggles in front of goal as clear reasons for Chiefs to strengthen their attacking options.
Masilela singled out Dion as his preferred choice, describing him as a proven goalscorer who can make an impact against top opposition. He noted that the forward had recently scored against Mamelodi Sundowns, showing that his goalscoring ability is not limited to matches against lower-ranked teams.
Masilela also praised Dion’s instincts inside the penalty area, his ability to find scoring positions and the overall qualities he could bring to the Kaizer Chiefs attack.
Dion's form makes a compelling case
Dion’s 14-goal haul last season put him among the Premier Soccer League’s most prolific forwards, and he has continued that impressive form this campaign with four goals already.

Masilela’s comments indicate that his scoring record, coupled with his ability to deliver against strong opposition, makes him a realistic option for a club looking for greater reliability in the centre-forward position.
Kaizer Chiefs have completed six signings this season, but Mayo remains the only recognised striker added to the squad. Even that deal was not an entirely new recruitment, as the club simply made his previous loan move permanent.
The lack of attacking depth was highlighted again in Chiefs’ 3-2 win over Siwelele at the weekend, with head coach Fernando Da Cruz starting the match without a recognised striker.
Khan backs call for a physical presence
Former Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Farouk Khan backed Masilela’s view, highlighting how Dion’s physical presence and playing style could benefit the attackers around him.
Khan believes Chiefs need greater physicality in attack and said Dion’s ability to make near-post runs and hold up the ball would provide a different dimension. He added that having a striker with those qualities could allow Vilakazi, Duba and Shabalala to become more effective in the final third.
Golden Arrows have yet to comment on reports linking their striker with a possible move to Kaizer Chiefs.
