Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns are set to meet again in the MTN8 final, with the Premier Soccer League confirming the venue for the highly anticipated clash. The final will be played at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday, 10 October, with kick-off at 18:00.

The Premier Soccer League confirmed the venue on Monday, 28 September, setting the stage for another meeting between two of South Africa’s biggest clubs.

The fixture also brings the sides back together in a competition where they have crossed paths several times.

Pirates return to familiar MTN8 territory

Moses Mabhida Stadium has become a significant venue in Pirates’ recent MTN8 history. The Buccaneers played three consecutive finals at the Durban stadium from 2022 to 2024. They beat AmaZulu in 2022, overcame Sundowns on penalties in 2023 and defeated Stellenbosch FC in 2024.

Pirates then extended their remarkable run by beating Stellenbosch 3-0 after extra time in the 2025 final. That victory delivered a fourth consecutive MTN8 title. Their 4-0 aggregate semi-final win over Sekhukhune United this season also made them the first club to reach five successive MTN8 finals.

Sundowns face Pirates again

Sundowns will return to the venue where they last won the MTN8. The Brazilians defeated Cape Town City at Moses Mabhida Stadium in the 2021 final. They met Pirates again in the final two years later.

That 2023 meeting finished 0-0 after 120 minutes before Pirates won the penalty shootout 3-1. Sipho Chaine saved three penalties during the shootout.

Now the two sides will meet again, this time with the 2026 MTN8 trophy at stake.

The final is scheduled for 10 October at 18:00, with Pirates aiming to extend their remarkable run and Sundowns seeking to reclaim the MTN8 title. The confirmed venue adds another familiar element to a final between two clubs with considerable MTN8 history.

Sundowns beat Pirates to promising defender

Briefly News previously reported that Mamelodi Sundowns beat Orlando Pirates to the signing of AmaZulu defender Wandile Dube after both clubs showed interest in the promising 22-year-old.

Dube completed his move to Chloorkop last week on a three-year deal, with Sundowns moving ahead of their rivals before the transfer window closed.
