Following the crash, claims emerged that Mokoena had been driving under the influence of alcohol. Sedibeng Ster Sport indicated it holds video footage of the incident, which shows a standby vehicle in the background and has been cited in support of those allegations.
Vanderbijlpark Police spokesperson Sergeant Sabelo Sigcu was unavailable for comment at the time of publication due to a prior engagement.

Mokoena's record-breaking Bafana Bafana career
Mokoena remains the most capped player in South African men's football history, having made 107 appearances for Bafana Bafana following his debut against Botswana in 1999. He also holds the distinction of being the youngest player called into the national squad for the 1998 Africa Cup of Nations in Burkina Faso.
His football career began on the pitches of Boipatong, where he turned out for the now-defunct Boipatong Real Rangers FC before earning a move to the Ajax Amsterdam development academy.
