Pregnant Partner Mourns Rugby Player Breyton Rossouw Killed on R46 Near Wolseley

A Worcester rugby player was killed on Saturday, 5 September, after being struck by a vehicle on the R46 near Wolseley while on his way to visit his heavily pregnant partner in Hermon.
Breyton Rossouw, 25, was a member of the Villagers Breërivier Rugby Club and had been travelling to be with his girlfriend, Rochelle Filander, who is seven months pregnant with the couple's baby girl.
Filander Speaks Out After Tragedy
Still struggling to process Rossouw’s death, Filander said the 25-year-old had been working towards a more settled life for their growing family. He was actively searching for a better-paying job and hoped to buy a home where they could eventually live together.
“He was sending his CV everywhere for a better job. He also wanted to buy a house and have us move in together,” she said.
The couple met in November last year, and Rossouw had told Filander he would be there for her throughout the pregnancy once his rugby commitments ended. He kept that promise, travelling to see her before his life was cut short.

“That is exactly what he did, but his life was stolen on his way to me,” she said.
Filander said their relationship was strengthened by constant communication and a deep affection for one another. The grief became even harder to bear when Rossouw’s parents arrived at her family home in Hermon on the day of the tragedy.
She said she was unable to bring herself to face them.
“I did not even have the strength to face them. I was crying in my room,” she said.
Villagers Breërivier Rugby Club Pays Tribute
The Villagers Breërivier Rugby Club mourned the loss of one of its own, calling Rossouw an "excellent rugby player" who gave everything on the field. The club described him as "like a brother" to his teammates and said his character, smile and passion for the sport would not be forgotten.
"To his rugby family, teammates and the entire Villagers Breërivier family: we mourn together. We lost a player, but more than that, we lost a brother," the club said in a statement.
Western Cape police spokesperson Wesley Twigg confirmed the fatal incident, stating that officers found Rossouw at the scene after responding to reports of an accident. He was declared dead on the scene by medical personnel.
