A six-year-old Florida kindergartener, James Garcia, has been recognised for his extraordinary bravery and quick thinking that helped save his grandmother's life earlier this month.

Why was the boy honoured?

The Orange County Fire Rescue in America honoured James with the Young Hero Award at Station 58 for his heroic actions on November 4.

According to a report by People, the incident unfolded when James was at home with his grandmother, Rosa, and she experienced a sudden medical emergency.

James, being babysat at the time, heard a disturbing noise and discovered that his grandmother had fallen.

Without hesitation, the young hero grabbed the phone and dialled 911, ensuring swift action.

"I heard a bumping sound and that was my grandma falling," James recounted as reported by NBC affiliate WESH.

First responders shocked to find a boy

In the heart-wrenching 911 call, the six-year-old expressed his fear and confusion, staying on the line with dispatch until help arrived.

Nicholas Wilson, a member of the rescue team, was surprised to find a young boy answering the door when they reached the Orange County home.

"They said there was somebody there helping grandma. I did not realise he was so young," Wilson recalled.

In the 911 call obtained by FOX affiliate WOFL, James guided first responders to his grandmother's room, where the medical episode had taken place.

Special photo opportunity

The culmination of this heartwarming story occurred on Sunday, November 19, when James received the Young Hero Award from Orange County Fire Rescue at Station 58.

The ceremony included a unique photo opportunity with James holding a plaque alongside his grateful grandmother in front of an ambulance.

Rosa expressed her overwhelming love and gratitude, stating,

"If I loved him before, you have no idea how much I do now."

Kenyan boy in US honoured for saving grandma

In a similar story, US-based Kenyan teenager Roy Ngunjiri was awarded a Life Saving Recognition Award for his actions which saved a life.

The adolescent was honoured for his quick thinking, which helped avert what could have easily been his grandmother's death.

According to KSN Media, Ngunjiri realised that he was unable to assist his grandma, who was in a life-threatening situation and quickly called 911.
