Interesting facts about South Africa's Supa Mega, rapper AKA

Rapper AKA has been in the industry for 13 years and has built himself an empire of sorts by dropping one hit after another. He has become very famous and we gathered some fun facts about him, like that he was part of a Hip Hop group named Entity.

The rapper is known for his controversial comments and 'bad boy' image, but how much do you really know about him?

AKA was born in 1988 on 28 January in Cape Town.

His full name is Kiernan Jarryd Forbes.

AKA has a younger brother who is 5 years younger than him. He attended the Holy Cross Convent as well as Greenside Primary School. AKA also went to St. John's College, and this is where he formed a Hip-Hop group named Entity, with Vice Versa & Greyhound.

The rapper lived in Mitchell's Plain with his grandmother before he moved to Johannesburg.

Music career

Entity actually dropped a couple of good songs and gained success in the middle 2000's. They had popular songs like Touch & Go and First Gear. Sadly, the group split up after the members couldn't agree on what direction the band should take. AKA pursued his dream while the other members decided to study further.

It was in 2009 that AKA really became a star when he rose to fame with hits like Do It, Problems, and In My Walk.

2010 up to 2012 saw him rise even higher when he released his debut album, Altar-Ego. Hit tracks like Victory Lap, All I Know and I Want It All were some of his biggest hits off the album.

The album won awards like Best Produced Album, Best Hip Hop Album and Best Street Urban Music Album. The album was certified gold by the Recording Industry of South Africa.

AKA won Male Artist of the Year at the South African Music Awards in 2012.

The rapper also released 2 more albums since the success of Altar-Ego. In 2014, he released Levels, and in 2018 we were happy to see the release of Touch My Blood.

RISA awarded Levels triple platinum and Touch My Blood recently got certified gold.

AKA was reported to be one of the 10 richest music artists in SA, according to a report by ZAlebs. Currently, AKA's net worth is estimated at about $12 million, more than R163 million.

Relationships

AKA had a bumpy relationship with DJ Zinhle, who became the mother of his child, Kairo Owethu Forbes. AKA cheated on her with social starlet Bonang Matheba during her pregnancy and they broke up.

Then, in 2016 Bonang and AKA made it official that they're dating and won the Favourite Couple Award at the YouSpec Awards. However, they split up in 2017. After this, AKA dated Nicole Nyaba, a model, but it didn't last very long.

Recently, rumours have intensified that AKA and Zinhle are back together.

Co-parenting like pros

AKA and DJ Zinhle are slaying the co-parenting thing. They gave her a wonderful 3rd birthday and keep putting her first.
