Growing up, Frans always had a passion for rugby. He is an alumnus of Paarl Boys' High School, where he moulded his skill in the sport. He was the captain of the school's rugby team, and during his matric year, his team won the inter-schools competition. As a result, he landed an opportunity in the Stormers and Western Province rugby teams in 2011.
In 2012, during the Super Rugby season, he managed to play every match. At the same time, during that year's Currie Cup Premier Division, he represented Western Province in all the matches apart from one.
In 2013, he managed to retain his position as the first-choice tighthead in the Stormers team. His exemplary performance landed him the opportunity to be part of most of the South African squads, both locally and internationally. I want to now try and make a difference after the injuries I suffered in 2013 and 2014. It’s still uncertain whether South Africans playing overseas will be picked for the Boks. What that essentially means is that I want to be here and play as many Tests as possible for the Boks.
