South African struggle hero Andrew Mokete Mlangeni turns 95 years old

Andrew Mokete Mlangeni, the last surviving member of the Rivonia trialist turns 95 today. People from all over the country have wished the struggle icon a happy birthday.

Upon his release, he served as a member of Parliament from 1994 until 1999 and served in the National Assembly from 2009 until 2014.

Briefly.co.za learned that the ANC also wished the struggle hero a happy birthday.

The City of Johannesburg paid special tribute to Mlangeni:

"Andrew Mlangeni was awarded the Freedom of the City in April 2016. He's a life member of the Soweto Country Club as he loves golf. He was also at the US Masters in 2012. When the Executive Mayor was elected, Mlangeni was at Council as a guest #MlangeniTurns95 #JoburgCares ^GZ"

In other news, Briefly.co.za reported that Rivonia trialist Denis Goldberg has lost his lengthy battle with cancer and passed away on Wednesday evening.

The anti-apartheid activist played a significant role in South Africa achieving democracy.

After studying at the University of Cape Town, Goldberg joined Umkhonto we Sizwe’s (MK) technical office.
