Cicely Tyson: World Mourns After Iconic Actress Dies Aged 96

Award-winning actress Cicely Tyson has passed away. The revered thespian, known for her roles on stage and in screenplays, died on Thursday, 28 January at the age of 96.
News of Cicely's sad demise was first made public and confirmed by her longtime manager Larry Thompson.
Cicely's family also released an official statement but did not reveal the cause of her death. The legendary actress' demise came barely a week after releasing her first memoirs - Just As I Am - which highlighted her lengthy acting career.
The late actress' memoir was released on Tuesday, 26 January.
Her death shook many world notable personalities such as Obama, Tyler Perry, Rihanna and Mariah Carey, among others, who mourned the legend with touching posts on social media.
''In her extraordinary career, Cicely Tyson was one of the rare award-winning actors whose work on the screen was surpassed only by what she was able to accomplish off of it. She had a heart unlike any other—and for 96 years, she left a mark on the world that few will ever match,'' Obama tweeted.
Rihanna noted the world had lost a true legend.
''A true legend!! Rest in power Cicely Tyson,' Rihanna wrote.
''Honoring the life of the legendary Ms. Cicely Tyson, a queen who graced the world with her beauty, strength and talent. Grateful for her legacy and for the chance to read her unvarnished truth. Rest In Power,'' Mariah Carey tweeted.
The late actress will be remembered for breaking barriers for Black actresses with dignity.
Cicely played important roles in movies and TV shows such as Sounder (1972), The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman (1974), Roots (1977), The Marva Collins Story (1981), The Women of Brewster Place (1989) and The Help (2011).
One of her greatest moments in life was in 2016 when she received the Medal of Freedom by former President Barack Obama. The actress described that moment as the most important thing that could happen to her.
Previously, Briefly.co.za reported on the passing of Larry King. King died aged 87 with his demise being announced by Ora Media, a company he co-founded, in a statement on Twitter on Saturday, 23 January.
"With profound sadness, Ora Media announces the death of our co-founder, host and friend Larry King who passed away this morning aged 87 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles," part of the statement read.
King gained fame after being in the media for 63 years across radio, television and digital platforms.
