6-Year-Old Maths Genius Receives Educational Sponsorship from Abroad

- A sponsor has now come out and offered to move him to a boarding school, pay fees and fund his parents to start an income-generating project
A few days ago, Briefly.co.za carried the story of Tanzania's six-year-old Charles Mbena, who is gifted with numbers.
The boy from a humble background in rural Morogoro became an internet sensation when his teachers shared a video of his mathematical prowess.
Mbena revealed that playing with numbers comes easy for him, something that makes him help his elder siblings come to him for help with arithmetics.

When he was interviewed by journalists, his biggest wish was that he is moved to a better school because the Nyingwa Primary School he currently attends suffers from poor infrastructure and low education standards.

Ask and you shall be given, so the old adage goes. The story of Mbena has come with good tidings as Ernest Makulilo, a Tanzanian based in the United States, offered to pay the young man's school fees.
"I want him to move to a boarding school in Morogoro where he will not only gain exposure and confidence but also hone his skills in mathematics," sad Makulilo.
The Good Samaritan, who is the regional project director at Unbound and founder of EBM Scholars, added that on top of the school fees his organisation would start income-generating projects for his parents.
"We want to see how the parents will be funded in one way or the other to venture into farming or business so that the living standards of that household improve," he added.
As Mbena's story continues to hit headlines, the sorry state of his school has also come into focus, offering hope that more well-wishers will come out to help rebuild the crumbling walls and roof under which the young man and his schoolmates learn.
Briefly.co.za also reported on Bonga Masoka is a nearly 30-year-old man who grew up in a village called Madinyane, outside Brits, a small town 24 km from Hartbeesport Dam, in North West who shared how he came to be the successful owner of a paint business.
"I was born to a single mother, who lived and earned her income through selling old clothes and food on roadsides in Johannesburg. I lived or was partly raised by my grandmother until she passed on when I was seven years old. I don’t remember much, in terms of how her passing away affected me emotionally, considering how close I was with her."
