Owning the Throne: The Rise of Boity Thulo and Her Media Empire

Boity Thulo is one of Mzansi’s biggest media personalities. The entertainer has not been afraid to leave her comfort zone in the pursuit of the bag and fame. Her daring attitude has bagged her hip hop accolades, a stake in her own beverage company and spans of other businesses that no other local celebrity can brag about. Briefly News takes a look at her life, love and career.

Early life

Boitumelo 'Boity' Thulo was born in Potchefstroom, North West. She is the only daughter of Modiehi Thulo, her mother. However, she was raised by her grandmother.

Boity studied psychology and criminology at Monash University but later dropped out because her mother was unable to pay for her varsity fees. She opened up about dropping out of university recently.

Thulo grew up wanting to be a criminal psychologist or serial killer profiler. The entertainment game was not always where Boity saw herself.

Taking to social media to reveal what her childhood aspirations were, Boity let the people know that she had wanted to work in the criminology field. Sis had big dreams that clearly stemmed from CSI or something.

Boity started out by attending a top school, a university formerly known as Monash, but it made her feel anything but top.

“Oh, yes. Statistical psychology demoralised me in Uuiversity. I felt like such a loser with that subject. Yeses!!!!! The fact that I had to pass science higher grade for university entrance used to give me sleepless nights. That 56% was by the grace of God.”

Despite her battling to pass some modules, Boity would have pushed through if her mother was able to keep paying her fees. At the time it was soul-destroying but Boity now sees the plans God had for her. After dropping out, she then signed with a casting agency that resulted her in appearing in a Wimpy advert in 2010.

Early career

Boity presented YOTV educational show Crib Notes in 2011. She then co-hosted on the SABC 1 The Media Career Guide Show alongside Thomani Mahlaba.

She also served host duties in several television shows, including SkyRoom Live, Ridiculousness Africa, Club 808, Zoned, Change Down and Big Brother Africa.

In 2012, Thulo starred on the drama series Rockville, which was her first starring role. Thulo's film debut was in 2014 when she starred on a comedy short-film Dear Betty, were she played 'Betty'.

Music career

Boity made her rapping debut on the Migos Culture Tour in South Africa on 21 October, 2017 at TicketPro Dome.

As Migos were delayed by a few hours, Thulo joined Nasty C as one of the opening acts until the trio arrived. She released her debut single on 30 August, 2018, a track called Wuz Dat featuring Nasty C.

The song would become the first ever single by a female rapper in South Africa to be certified Platinum and this making it the best selling single of all time by female rapper in that country respectively.

On 8 February, 2019, she released her second single titled Bakae. On 4 December, 2020, she released the EP 4436. Boity bagged a deal with Def Jam Africa in 2021.

Business ventures

Boity has always prided herself in being an entrepreneur. In 2016, she collaborated with Sissy-Boy on a jeans collection.

In 2018, she partnered with Impulse SA in creating limited edition fragrances. A year later, Boity ventured into weight loss products and promoted some toning pills. In 2020, Boity announced hair care products along with a perfume. In 2021, Boity announced the launch of her new alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

Love life

Boity Thulo’s love life has always been a talking point. She is known to have dated Khaya Dlanga and rapper Cassper Nyovest. Cassper and Boity got engaged but then they called off their engagement and ended their relationship in December 2015.

She has been rumoured to have dated Maps Maponyane but they both refuted the stories.

Boity also dated club owner Stan, aka SOS. Boity Thulo recently partied with him to celebrate his birthday. The reality TV star was one of the guests when the Nigerian club owner partied at his club Black Door Lounge.

Boity, Bobby Blanco, Nadia Nakai and Thuli Phongolo were some of Mzansi stars who were reportedly in attendance during the businessman's party.

Currently, the media personality is believed to be dating actor Anton Jeftha.

Briefly News previously reported that Boity Thulo and Anton David Jeftha have been serving bae goals on several occasions now and the people of Mzansi have taken the matter to the social media streets.

Fans love to see their favourite celebrities coupling up and Boity and Anton are definitely one of those pairs. Having seen the undeniable vibes, the people felt the need to discuss the probably couple.

A fan posted a picture of Boity and Anton, giving their approval, and others took to the comment section to have their say. While most agreed, some felt that Boity was going to friend-zone Anton and leave him in the dust, shame.
