- Katlego Maboe made a surprise comeback when he was nominated in this year's SAFTAs
- The talented but disgraced TV host has been nominated in the Best Television Presenter category
- Social media users shared mixed reactions to Katlego's nomination and some want him to win the award
Disgraced Mzansi TV host Katlego Maboe has been nominated in this year's South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs).
The media personality, who has won two SAFTAs before, got the nod in the Best Television Presenter category despite making headlines for all the wrong reasons a few months back.
Maboe's name trended on social media after a video of his wife accusing him of giving her an STD went viral. Following the clip, the star lost all of his sponsorships and endorsements.
Entertainment commentator Phil Mpela took to Twitter recently to share Maboe's good news. Phil tweeted:
"And the nominees for Best TV presenter are... The surprise on the list is obviously, Katlego Maboe. His personal life has nothing to do with his talent but his nom is an eyebrow raiser."
Tweeps took to Phil's comment section to share their opinions on Katlego's nomination. Check out some of their comments below:
"Outsurance ads aren't the same without him."
"I wish him the best. He's good and some of us we learned from him."
"Clearly @OUTsurance does not need him any more. We hope he gets another presenting gig somewhere."
"His nom doesn’t raise any eyebrows to us the consumers (people on the ground). The guy killed that show, actually kills every gig he does. Finally, let’s give the man a break."
"Guys let's start a #tag to vote @KatlegoMaboe for best TV presenter. Despite his fall, this guy is one of the best we've ever had."
"I’m not surprised, he is a dope presenter. He will rise again."
In related news, Briefly News reported that Katlego Maboe's career may not be down the drain just yet. His loyal fans started a petition to have him brought back on TV after he lost his job.
The presenter was suspended after a video was shared on social media of him admitting to cheating on his wife and giving her an STD. After being pressured by social media users, he was suspended from SABC3 show Expresso and his endorsements were pulled out pending investigations.
His fans fought back with a Change.org petition calling for the media personality to be allowed to resume his duties. The petition to bring him back to the TV screens has been made the rounds on social media and was sitting at over 36 000 signatures a the time of publication.
