Musa Khawula is trending on social media after a throwback denial by Patriotic Alliance politician Kenny Kunene resurfaced amid speculation about his relationship with DJ Sumbody’s supposed killer. Kunene hogged headlines after he was found at the Sandton home of Katiso Molefe, a businessman believed to have ordered the assassination of DJ Sumbody.

While the firebrand Patriotic Alliance politician explained why he was at Molefe’s home, Mzansi remains unconvinced. Social media sleuths have been attempting to uncover the Johannesburg Transport MMC’s alleged links to the underworld.

Old Kenny Kunene post resurfaces amid DJ Sumbody saga

Social media user @azania1023 unearthed a 2024 post of Kunene furiously denying claims by Khawula that he and his close friends had splurged at a club after attending the HollywoodBets Durban July. The response shared by Kenny Kunene on his X account on 9 July 2024 reads:

“This @Musa_Khawula peddles fake news about people, and this is not the first time he has done so about me. I was NOT at Rockets on Sunday, so this is FAKE NEWS. He does this to extort money like he did Leroy, who had to pay him R20K for him to stop writing about him. You've gone too far, psycho.”

Responding to Kunene's post, the social media user claimed Musa Khawula was always right about Kunene and that South Africans should have believed him. The post was captioned:

“Musa Khawula was always right; he was far ahead. We owe him an apology for not believing him.”

What did Musa Khawula say about Kenny Kunene?

In the now-deleted post, Khawula had alleged that Kunene and Zimbabwe-born businessman Sergio Cabonge had spent an eye-popping R114,518 at popular Durban hangout spot Rockets in Umhlanga during the Durban July weekend. Khawula’s post read:

“All the blessers flocked to Durban for the Durban July weekend, as did Sergio Cabonge and Kenny Kunene, who spent over R125 000 at Rockets Club, Umhlanga Rocks.”

In another resurfaced post from 2023, Musa Khawula accused Kenny Kunene, a former convict, of stealing his phone. Khawula alleged that Kunene arranged a meeting to steal his mobile phone to gather information.

Musa Khawula has earned respect on social media after his previous posts speaking about famous figures, including Vusi "Cat" Matlala and Tebogo Thobejane, have resurfaced since General Mkhwanazi opened a can of worms during his explosive press conference.

The jailed entertainment blog previously posted about Matlala's shady deals and his affair with Tebogo Thobejane. Khawula revealed that the tenderpreneur, who is in jail for attempted murder, owned Cat VIP Security Services.

According to Khawula, Cat was involved in the brutal murders of Babita Deokaran, a whistleblower who was reportedly murdered for reporting corruption at the Gauteng Department of Health where she was working, and Oupa Sekafo, who was popularly known as DJ Sumbody, who was killed in a hail of bullets, on his way from a gig in the early hours of 20 November 2022.

Who killed DJ Sumbody?

Businessman Katiso Molefe is believed to be the one who ordered DJ Sumbody's assassination, as reported by Briefly News.

Molefe was out on bail for a separate case when he was arrested for DJ Sumbody's murder. He made his first appearance at the Alexander Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, 22 July 2025. He was remanded in custody at the Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Centre, formerly known as Pretoria Central Prison.

Molefe and three other suspects were linked to the murder of the Vereeniging engineer Armand Swart in April 2024, and also the attempted murder of actress Tebogo Thobejane. Their case has been postponed and should appear again in court on Tuesday, 29 July 2025.
