The family of legendary actress Nandi Nyembe has broken their silence since confirming her death in a statement on Saturday, 23 August 205.

The veteran actress made headlines this weekend when her former The Queen co-star, Zenande Mfenyana, shared that she wished she had done more for her while she was still alive.

The Nyembes shared in an interview with Daily Sun on Sunday, 24 August 2025, that the veteran actress died in the hospital.

Jabulani Nyembe, who is the grandson of the thespian, shared that his famous grandmother had been battling a long-term illness before her death.

"We tried everything to get her back to full health, but sadly she succumbed," he adds.

Jabulani adds that he was heartbroken when he received a phone call from the hospital confirming his grandmother had passed away.

While the Nyembes acknowledge that the thespian was an important figure, they ask for privacy to mourn the award-winning actress.

Social media user Joy Zelda shared a photo on Sunday, 24 August 2024, on X of the ailing actress in her home, a few weeks before she passed away.
