Veteran South African actor and director Meshack Mavuso brought back memories after recreating a popular scene at the memorial of the late actress Nandi Nyembe.

Fans, loved ones and colleagues in the film industry converged at the Market Theatre in Newton, Johannesburg, on Thursday, 28 August 2025, to celebrate the life of Nandi Nyembe.

While Nyembe’s former Icala co-star Lerato Mvelase took to the podium to criticise Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie, the late actress’s Yizo Yizo co-star Meshack Mavuso honoured her legacy by recreating an iconic scene from the critically acclaimed yesteryear TV series.

Meshack Mavuso recreates iconic Yizo Yizo scene

On Friday, 29 August 2025, social media user @Moshe_Meso reshared a video which was initially shared by The Citizen on TikTok. The post was captioned:

“Javas will always be Javas 🙌”

In the video, Meshack Mavuso, who also shared a befitting tribute to Zahara on his birthday, joined the funeral procession and initially played the drum. He then switched to the bell, which brought back feelings of nostalgia as he recreated an iconic scene from Yizo Yizo as Javas.
