In an interview with David Mashabela of King David Studios, Dr Easy Matjila explained how he came to leave the SABC. The newsreader icon was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from North West University for his decades of hardwork reporting in Sesotho, Sepedi, and Setswana. In a snippet of his recent sit-down, the iconic newsreader confirmed that he did not retire as a newsreader. Instead, he revealed that the SABC retired him.

Dr Matjila also detailed other horrors in his life, including being almost killed. In the interview preview, he said:

"I was almost killed, it is not a secret..three old ladies came in there and said 'we're here to kill you because we've been asking you to kill your family members for a long time and since you are not killing them, we are going to kill you.'"
