Many creatives have been complaining on social media about awards being rigged, and many people who deserve them never got a chance to win or even a nomination. Recently, the popular Umkhokha: The Curse star expressed his disappointment after not seeing his name nominated for the SAMAs this year.
According to Sunday World, the musician, who opened up about his past mental health struggles in August 2025, shared how disheartening this was for him not to get recognised by the biggest annual and national award in Mzansi, 20 years after being in the entertainment industry.
"I’m probably one of the first artists of my calibre not to get an award at the SAMAs. I have noted that, but I am not offended. Awards are a symbol of appreciation. If the judges were working on votes, and some of them do not like you, then you might not make it to the list,” he said.
This isn't the first time the 47-year-old star has hogged headlines on social media, as he previously trended for accusing the popular producer Duma Ka Ndlovu of owing him a lot of money for the music he produced for the show, Umkhokha: The Curse.

Speaking further about being snubbed at the South African Music Awards (SAMAs), Khoza shared that, though he was previously nominated for the awards five times, he hasn't even won one.
He said:
"I have been nominated about five times for the SAMAs, and I never won. I was trained at a young age not to feel entitled. The work I do extends far beyond just award ceremonies. The work I do is the reward, not just receiving a trophy. I learnt about it earlier in my life. Therefore, I don’t take it to heart."
The musician further shared that though he is hurt by not being nominated, he has something exciting planned, which is the Amahubo Symphony – a first of its kind, celebrating Zulu identity, ancestral knowledge, and oral tradition – at Constitution Hill in Johannesburg.
