Music commentator and industry provocateur Nota Baloyi has stirred fresh controversy after claiming that TV personality Somizi Mhlongo played a role in derailing singer Zee Nxumalo's career.

The remarks were made during the latest episode of the Music Pulse podcast, where he is a co-host alongside Thakgi Ledwaba and Sfiso. The clip began circulating on X on 5 August 2026 and quickly gained traction.

Nota's claims about Somizi and Zee

In the episode, Nota suggested that Zee Nxumalo's career trajectory took a noticeable dip after she became associated with Somizi. When pressed on why he believed Somizi would be responsible, Nota widened his claim, alleging that multiple artists who have linked up with Somizi have since faded from the spotlight.

"Somizi has been associated with a whole lot of artists who are no longer popping, think about it, one after the other," Nota said, stopping short of offering any specific examples.

When Thakgi pushed him further, asking whether Somizi somehow drains the luck of those around him, Nota declined to spell it out directly. "I don't know, you should ask him," he replied. Asked whether he and Somizi are close, Nota's response was blunt: "Not really. Stay far."
