Two prominent South African music figures have broken their silence on Emtee's ongoing legal troubles. Grammy Award-winning DJ and producer Zakes Bantwini took to X on 1 September 2026 to show solidarity with the imprisoned rapper, while Nota Baloyi used the moment to hold those close to Emtee accountable.
Zakes kept his message short but heartfelt, writing: "My prayers are with you @emteerecords today. #freeemtee."
The Roll Up rapper, whose real name is Mthembeni Ndevu, landed in hot water in mid-August after allegedly texting his ex-wife, Nicole Chinsamy, in direct violation of a protection order she had obtained against him in 2023. The order explicitly barred him from making any contact with her.
Following the incident, Emtee appeared briefly at the Midrand Magistrate's Court, where his bail was revoked, and he was remanded back into custody.

Just days before the arrest, Emtee had released a lengthy public statement in which he addressed his strained co-parenting relationship with Chinsamy, and extended apologies to his children, family, and the supporters who had stood by him through his turbulent personal life.

Nota Baloyi calls out Emtee's inner circle
Music commentator Nota Baloyi offered a far blunter perspective. Writing on his own X page, he pointed out that Emtee had now spent 15 days in prison, and that neither his parents nor his fanbase appeared to be rallying around him.
"As of today, Emtee has been at Sun City Monsters Inc prison for 15 days. He's settled now. His parents have no plans of having him released into their care. His fans haven't visited him."
He went on to reflect on what moments of crisis reveal about a person's true support system.
"Never turn your back on your family; it's times like these where you learn your true friends!"
