South African comedy icon Leon Schuster has confirmed he is working on a new Netflix film while still recovering from a serious back injury. The news, dropped casually during a chat on KwaZulu-Natal digital radio station PlayZN, has sent fans into a frenzy of excitement.

The interview, filmed outdoors in what appears to be a rooftop or balcony setting and shared on 5 September 2026, saw Schuster open up about his life and upcoming projects with trademark bluntness. He revealed that he splits his time between homes, visiting his KwaZulu-Natal spot two or three times a year, but that this trip is far from purely recreational.

"We got a contract from Netflix, and we're going to do a movie with them, which is a very difficult movie, but I pitched the idea," Schuster told PlayZN. He added that Netflix responded positively to his concept and that the project is now officially in motion.

What makes this announcement particularly striking is the context surrounding it. Schuster suffered a severe back injury during the production of Mr Bones 3 in 2023 and has not fully recovered. Rather than letting the setback sideline him, he is working the limitation directly into the story.

"I'm going to play it 50% in a wheelchair and 50% because I can't walk far with my bloody back, you know," he explained.
