Nearly three decades after one of hip-hop's most haunting unsolved murders, justice has finally arrived. "You don't get to take a man from his family. You don't get to take his very life, his whole future, from him … Especially when that man is Tupac Shakur."

The night Tupac was shot

The crime traces back to the evening of 7 September 1996, when Shakur was a passenger in a BMW alongside Death Row Records co-founder Suge Knight. The pair were leaving a Mike Tyson boxing match in Las Vegas when a white Cadillac pulled up beside them and opened fire. Multiple bullets struck Shakur and, despite surviving briefly, he passed away six days later at just 25 years old. Knight survived the attack.

The sentencing hearing carried significant emotional weight. Shakur's sister, Sekyiwa Shakur, addressed the court and appealed to Judge Kierny to impose the maximum possible punishment, speaking to both the personal grief her family has carried and the cultural loss felt far beyond their household. Shakur's stepbrother, Maurice "Mopreme" Shakur, echoed that call. Davis reportedly reacted during Sekyiwa's remarks but stayed silent as the judge announced his fate.
