Explosive details emerged about Nandipha Magudumana, the alleged accomplice of convicted murderer and rapist Thabo Bester, after they approached the Pretoria High Court to stop Netflix from airing a three-part documentary about their story.
On Friday, 12 September 2025, the Pretoria High Court dealt a blow to Nandipha Magudumana and Thabo Bester’s bid to stop Netflix from streaming Beauty and the Bester. During arguments on Thursday, 11 September, the court heard that Magudumana had a business relationship with Netflix.
Netflix paid Nandipha Magudumana for docuseries
The court heard that she signed a contract with Story Scope, the production company behind the documentary. The contract allowed Story Scope to use archival photos from her life. Magudumana was also paid an undisclosed amount of money for the use of the archive material.

Dr Nandipha Magudumana’s lawyer, advocate Lerato Moela, told the court that her client had also signed a commercial agreement that granted her the right to review and provide input on the final product before publication. Magudumana argued through her lawyer that the licence agreement was being used to prevent her from viewing the documentary before its release.
Moela argued that the agreement between her client and Netflix was unenforceable because Magudumana signed it without proper legal representation.
Netflix’s lawyer, advocate Tembeka Ngcukaitobi, countered the argument and highlighted that at the time the contract was signed, Magudumana had received legal advice. Advocate Ngcukaitobi argued that Beauty and the Bester wouldn’t introduce anything new, but what’s already in the public domain.
