Fans of the Showmax series Youngins should brace themselves for a "chaotic" season three.

These are the words of Lebohang Lephatsoana, the actor who plays the role of Tumelo in the popular series.

"If viewers thought Tumelo and Sefako’s relationship hit rock bottom in season two... Things get even more chaotic this season."

And this time, he adds, it’s not just Tumelo's fault – Sefako is to blame too.

The youth-centred drama has captivated fans, and Lebohang's star continues to shine brightly.

His character, Tumelo, has struggled with insecurity because of Sefako's secrecy regarding his sexuality, which put a strain on their relationship.

But in the upcoming final season, which premieres on Friday, September 19 2025, both are responsible for the turmoil in their relationship.

The trailer for this season shows the Olifants Five heading to court.

Lebohang says that if he could advise the characters, he would tell them to focus on what's truly important.

"Being the 'good guys' has landed them in trouble with the law – not once, but twice. While it’s admirable to want to save everyone, it’s not realistic. Just focus on your grades and get out of Olifantsfontein High."

Lebohang Lephatsoana's most challenging role yet

Lebohang says it was emotionally and physically exhausting when his character went through a phase of drug addiction.

"I’m usually a high-energy person, but playing someone spiralling into drug use pushed me beyond my limits.

"Going home helped me reconnect with myself, spending time with family, doing the things Lebohang enjoys – it grounded me so I wouldn’t lose myself in the role."

He adds that Tumelo functioned at a high level while he was on drugs, and Lebohang had to match his character's energy for weeks on end.

While it pushed him to his acting limits, Lebohang describes it as "worth it".

Season three marks the last time viewers will see the Olifants Five on screen together. Lebohang says closing that chapter has been an emotional journey, especially since Youngins was his first acting gig.

"I’ve built real friendships that I truly value from that set. These are such talented young actors, and I really want to commend how they welcomed me. I was nervous, but they made the process feel seamless and fun."

He believes Youngins has had a profound impact on South Africa's youth.

"I believe it’s made many young people more aware of the consequences of their actions. In places like boarding schools, where there’s often less guidance, it’s easy to act without thinking things through. The show sends a strong message: it’s okay to enjoy your youth, but do it mindfully and with caution."

In his personal life, Lebohang says playing Tumelo has transformed his life and that he's grateful he gets to tell a story that matters.

"It’s been life-changing. A lot of young people, especially queer youth, look up to the characters we play. Playing Tumelo has been an incredible journey, not just because of the story I get to tell, but because of how deeply it resonates with viewers."
