A disheartened job-seeker from Johannesburg says she’s taking a break from applying for work after being unemployed for two years.

The woman, who is a public relations and communications professional, said that she needs a mental health break from the job hunt, noting that the emotional stress it put on her has been unbearable.

“After almost two years of no formal employment, a large number of job applications, few interviews coupled with rejection emails, today I take a decision to stop sending job applications.

“I’m not doing this because life is easy or I have it all figured out, I’m doing this for my sanity and peace of mind. I found that being unemployed was not my main stress but waiting on feedback from HR managers and/or employers being the contributor to my anguish."

Mamello further noted that she was very interested in returning to the corporate world but needs some time to reflect.

“I’m still very interested in going back to corporate to do what I love, which is PR and Communications, and will take the opportunity at any given time but for now, I choose to find joy in the simplicity of life,” she explained.

Commenting on the lady’s post, many netizens said that they could relate to her mental stress and anguish, encouraging her to take a moment to reflect, with others urging Mamello not to give up.
