A professional dog photographer melted hearts across social media after sharing the incredible story of Finn, a township rescue Africanis who is now living his best life abroad.

Photographer @Robinmypictures, who specialises in free dog portraits for strangers, posted the touching video on 9 September 2025.

The video shows Finn, an 11-year-old Africanis, enjoying a beautiful day outdoors with his owner, Dan. What makes this story special is Finn's journey from the streets of South Africa to his new life overseas, where he's being spoiled with all the love and care he deserves.

Dan revealed that Finn was rescued when he was just a tiny puppy, found on the streets in terrible condition. The poor pup was covered in fleas and mud, clearly having lived a tough life on his own. But fate had other plans for this special dog.

Dan shared that he got Finn through a WhatsApp group where someone was looking for a home for the abused street puppy. The timing was perfect. Dan had just told a friend that he wanted to get a dog as soon as he moved into his new house, and just two hours later, he received the message about Finn.

Training Finn was surprisingly easy because he was so food motivated, which Dan believes came from his days of eating out of dustbins on the streets. This heartbreaking detail shows just how grateful Finn was to finally have a stable home and regular meals.

About the Africanis breed

According to Wikipedia, the Africanis is a traditional dog breed found all over southern Africa. It’s medium-sized, has a short coat, and is easy to recognise by the black patch around its muzzle. These dogs are loving, smart, and gentle, with a strong instinct to make their owners happy.

The breed’s history goes back centuries. Experts believe its ancestors came from ancient Egyptian dogs that spread through Africa with migrating tribes around the 6th century AD. For generations, the Africanis has lived close to people, helping herd animals, protect homes from predators, and even join in hunting.
