An American family, the Shermans, made headlines in the USA for welcoming a child into their clan. They became viral for being a family that has only had sons for several generations.

A video detailing the family's history when it comes to baby-making received more than 300,000 likes. People were touched by the good news that the family shared as they celebrated the expected new addition.

In a TikTok video shared by ABCNews, the Shermans received congratulations on national television after one of the women married into the family revealed she was pregnant with a girl. The announcement comes after more than 100 years of the family only welcoming baby boys. The Sherman family reunites every time there's a pregnancy to do a gender reveal, and each time they are excited to see if the century-old pattern will break with the birth of a baby girl. 2025 was the year it finally happened when firefighter Michael and Joacquia Sherman announced that their older son, Mekhai, would have a sister.

Family members appeared on camera, excited that there would finally be a woman born into the family for the first time since 1917, when the expecting father's great-great-aunt Orah Belle Sherman was born. The family fondly remembered her as an active participant in the Civil Rights Movement, and they are sure the baby girl will follow in her footsteps as she's already made history with her birth.

TikTok viewers celebrate 1st girl in 100 years

Many people were delighted by the heartwarming story of the Shermans finally having a girl. Some South Africans shared the names of families that had a similar boy-only phenomenon.
