A family visiting a park in Yola, Adamawa State, Nigeria, got far more than they bargained for when they paid to see the animals on display. What greeted them inside the enclosures were not roaring lions or basking crocodiles, but painted cement statues.
Yakaka Yerima, who initially shared the experience on Facebook, described paying 500 Naira per person at the gate, only to walk in and find still, colourful sculptures standing in place of live wildlife. One enclosure featured a blue and yellow painted crocodile statue beside a pool of green water, looking nothing like the real thing.
Twitter user @Dzungie007 shared the video on 12 August 2026 with the caption: “Why doesn’t Nigeria have wild animals?” The clip spread quickly across social media, with South Africans leading the charge in the comments.
