A South African woman's long-awaited first solo road trip took an unexpected turn when a bird smashed straight into her windshield, leaving it shattered and her shaken but still smiling.
She documented the damage on 27 September 2026 in an Instagram Reel filmed in what appeared to be a shopping centre parking lot, with the caption:
"Pov: my first solo road trip went like this 😭💔."
In the clip, she calmly explained that she spotted two guinea fowl on the road but could not slow down quickly enough. She had been hoping they would scatter in time. They did not. After the impact, she pulled over, showed her mum what had happened, and then pressed on.

Guinea fowl strike leaves windshield in pieces
