Arguably, the tragedy's hero is one Jackson Majaliwa who was at the forefront in rescuing the 26 passengers who were trapped in the wreckage.

Majaliwa's missing father appears

It was an act of selflessness that saw the fisherman receive national recognition, a token of R 7 000 and the offer of a government job.

In the wake of his heroic status, it has emerged that Majaliwa was raised by a single mother and dropped out of school in grade 9 due to lack of fees.

The interesting twist in the story is that his biological father Jackson Samuel has appeared for the first time in many years and expressed his pride in the young man.

"Things are going great. As you can see my son is blessed just like his name Majaliwa, a name that I gave him myself," he told Ayo TV.

I went to look for greener pastures, Samuel

Samuel explained that he met and fell in love with Majaliwa's mother in the year 2000 when he found himself in Bukoba while looking for a job.

Since she already had a house and two other kids, he moved in with her and soon they had a baby.

However, life became tough and he had to leave the family in search of greener pastures, at the time Majaliwa was only three years old.

"We didn't separate per se, we were in a long distance relationship due to the hustle and bustle of life," he claimed.

Majaliwa was given government job by Samia

Kenya's leading news website Tuko.ke, previously reported that on Sunday, November 6, Majaliwa put his life on the line to save strangers who were tracked in the wreckage of the Precision Air flight that had fallen into Lake Victoria.

The fisherman, who was knocked unconscious while trying to open the emergency doors for the pilots, will now be employed by the government.

Tanzania President Samia Suluhu directed that Majaliwa be offered a firefighting and rescue brigade job.

He will also be trained by the government on how to manage rescue operations to sharpen his skills.
