Local internet users were shocked and appalled when they saw a video of a Black man showing his White wife putting a price tag on him. However, others unexpectedly had no qualms about the actions.

A TikTok content creator named Siv took to his account on 25 July, 2025 to react to the short clip he stitched on the app. In the post, the husband covered his forehead and stated:

"'Get married to a White woman,' they said. She does this."

He removed his hand from his forehead and revealed that the woman had placed a sticker on him that read 'R40.'

Slavery in South Africa

Much is known about slavery abroad, but not much is known about the slavery that occurred in South Africa.

According to the website of Iziko Museums of South Africa, a form of slavery called chattel slavery was used in the Cape Colony (a former Dutch and British-controlled area in present-day South Africa) from 1658 to 1834.

The inhumane process saw colonisers obtain chattel individuals from their birthplace and take them against their will to a different place to be sold again, as one would do with their property in today's times.
