A Western Cape man has shared his thoughts on America's expanded plans to resettle Afrikaners in the United States, calling it "Voetsekkers 2" and raising serious concerns about the political implications behind the programme.

TikTok user @drtristankapp posted a video on 10 September 2025 where he broke down the latest developments in Trump's controversial refugee scheme. The clip was shared with the caption:

"The Afrikaner exodus to the promised lands in America!"

The content creator, who regularly shares commentary on South African current affairs, explained how the US Embassy in Southern Africa announced on 8 September that they had partnered with a travel agency called 'Amerikaners' to help identify potential candidates for resettlement. He joked about coining the term "Voetsekkers 2: Revenge of the Naartjie Emperor" before getting serious about the political undertones of the programme.

The USA-SA refugee programme update

According to the US embassy statement, to be eligible for resettlement consideration, individuals must be of South African nationality, of Afrikaner ethnicity or a racial minority, able to articulate past persecution or fear of future persecution, and at least 18 years old. The programme is free, with no fees charged by referral partners, and applicants are warned against scams.

Alongside this, the group of Amerikaners now serve as a designated Department of State referral partner for the refugee programme. They gather information from potential applicants to assess whether cases are eligible for referral to the US Refugee Admissions Program. The programme targets people of Afrikaner ethnicity or racial minorities in South Africa who claim to be victims of unjust racial discrimination.

The man pointed out that Amerikaners are led by Sam Busa, a 60-year-old woman of British descent, and that one of their first moves was collecting signatures from Afrikaners thanking Trump for his offer. He found it ironic that the organisation targets Afrikaans-speaking white South Africans but describes their values as "Christian, conservative, and English-speaking."

The programme aims to bring thousands of white South Africans to the US in the coming year, though fewer than 100 had arrived by early August. South Africa's government strongly opposes the programme, saying the allegations of discrimination are unfounded and that the targeted group doesn't meet the definition of refugees.

He argued that South Africa has shown too much tolerance towards extremist ideologies and hasn't properly dealt with the legacy of apartheid-era thinking.
