Economic Freedom Fighters responds to the sentence

The Economic Freedom Fighters disagreed with the sentence and said that the case has always been pursued in a highly politicised environment. The party stated that the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) displayed a deeply suspicious appetite for imprisonment.

"This is the same prosecuting authority that routinely fails to secure convictions in cases of violent crime, including murder, rape, and armed robbery, where victims suffer irreversible harm," the party said.

The Red Berets also praised the Commander-in-Chief's legal team. The EFF remarked that the defence, which was led by Advocate Thembeka Ngcukaitobi, advanced compelling arguments. The party drew a comparison between the case and other African leaders.

"The fate of Patrice Lumumba, who was overthrown and assassinated for asserting the sovereignty of the Congo; Thomas Sankara, who was eliminated for advancing a radical programme of economic independence; and Steve Biko, who was murdered in detention for mobilising Black Consciousness, all serve as reminders that systems of power do not tolerate uncompromising advocates of African dignity and freedom," the EFF added.
