JOHANNESBURG — ActionSA's Johannesburg mayoral candidate Herman Mashaba has publicly criticised EFF counterpart Dr Tlaleng Mofokeng following a panel discussion hosted by the Black Business Council on 13 August 2026.
Mashaba, who shared his reaction on X, said Mofokeng was among the panellists in his group at the morning event. After the discussion, he questioned whether South Africa had exhausted fresh political thinking, writing:
"Have we run out of ideas in South Africa? Beyond shock!"
His post, which referenced a video of Mofokeng speaking on illegal immigration, drew over 103,000 views within hours of being published.

EFF candidate hits back at Mashaba
Mofokeng did not stay silent. She responded directly to Mashaba on X, saying:
"You even fell asleep during the panel. For the moments you were awake, you were actively nodding at my inputs, you lousy lie of an elder. You saw me face to face today; why didn’t you approach me in person? Coming here to perform for an audience. And recycling this poorly edited clip is all you've got, and it’s nothing. You’re full of lye relaxer. What a rubbish old man you are. Go away."
The exchange is set against the backdrop of an increasingly competitive race for the Johannesburg mayoral seat ahead of the 4 November 2026 Local Government Elections, with both candidates positioning themselves as the city's next leader.
