SOUTH AFRICA — Expelled uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party member Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla celebrated after the Western Cape High Court has ordered the MK Party to reinstate two of its expelled Members of Parliament, in a ruling that delivered a direct legal blow to the party's leadership.

Zuma-Sambudla posted a message in support of Dr Khanyile Litchfield-Tshabalala and Pumlani Kubukeli, who were expelled from the party in August 2026. The court found on 25 September 2026 that their termination and expulsion must be set aside, effectively ordering both members to be restored to the party.

MK Party's August expulsion

The MK Party confirmed the expulsions on 27 August 2026, citing what it described as a pattern of conduct harmful to the party's name, reputation and integrity. The decision was issued under the authority of the party president, with the relevant section of the MK Party Constitution cited as the basis for the action.

Zuma-Sambudla weighs in

The court ruling drew attention in part because of who amplified it on social media. Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, who was herself recently removed from the MK Party, shared coverage of the judgment. Her post added to the public scrutiny surrounding the party's internal disciplinary processes.

"Appreciation post to MK members in good standing and Members of Parliament. Congratulations on your court victory! The people around President Zuma must not mislead him on the use of the presidential decree. Any organisation must always follow due process! And they say the person who holds the pen is a legal eagle; maybe the ink is finished," she said.
