2 Alleged Robbers Killed in Shootout With KwaZulu-Natal SAPS

KWAMASHU, KWAZULU-NATAL — Two robbery suspects were shot and killed during a shootout with the South African Police Service on 1 September 2025. A police officer was injured during the shooting.

According to eNCA, the police, who have been investigating a growing spate of violent crimes in the province, tracked the suspects down in KwaMashu's B Section. When the police arrived, they announced their presence.

The police searched the premises for the suspects, and the two suspects were hiding. They came out, and the suspects opened fire. One of the police officers was shot and wounded during the shootouts.

These suspects were shot and killed during the shootout. The police also found explosives and firearms on the premises. One of the witnesses to the shooting was at the house, which she alleges belongs to a man she is in a relationship with. Her boyfriend told her that the suspects were on their way to sleep at the house. The police arrived shortly after the suspects arrived.

Police shootings in 2025

The Eastern Cape police shot and killed seven suspects in Butterworth on the N2 on 20 February 2025. Notorious Cape Town gangster Yanga Nyalara was also killed during the shootout after police received information about their activities and confronted them.

The KwaZulu-Natal police shot and killed three suspects in two shootouts in Marianhill and Inanda on 29 May 2025. The police received a tip-off about gang members hiding at a safehouse in Marianhill and shot and killed two of them. The third suspect was shot after the police traced him to Inanda, where he resisted arrest. He opened fire, and the police retaliated.

Four suspects were shot and killed in a shootout with the police in Riverlea, Johannesburg, on 123 July 2025. The police tracked the alleged robbers down after they reportedly robbed a business in the CBD. The suspects opened fire, and the police returned fire, killing the suspects.

Eswatini police kill suspects

In a related article, Briefly News reported that the Eswatini police shot and killed suspects who were wanted for the murder of a Mpumalanga police officer. The Eswatini police collaborated with the Mpumalanga police to track down the suspects.

The suspects escaped into Eswatini after allegedly killing the officer on 8 August 2025. The suspects were part of a group of seven robbers who robbed a shop in Schoemansdal, Mpumalanga, where the officers were gunned down.
