Kidnapping Kingpin Shot Dead During Shootout With SAPS, SA Praises Police As Businessman Is Rescued

GAUTENG – A kidnapping kingpin has been shot dead following a shootout with the South African Police Services (SAPS) anti-kidnapping task team.
The Mozambican national, who goes by the nickname ‘Dollarman’, was shot dead near the R21 in Kempton Park on Wednesday, 3 September 2025.
The 40-year-old was listed on Mozambique’s Wanted Persons Database, Serviço Nacional de Investigação Criminal (SERNIC).

Dollarman wanted for crimes in South Africa and Mozambique
According to SAPS National Spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, the kidnapping kingpin is wanted in both South Africa and Mozambique.
In his home country, he was a wanted person for several kidnapping for ransom cases, while in South Africa, he was allegedly involved in numerous crimes.
“In South Africa, he was also linked to at least five kidnapping-for-ransom cases, as well as other crimes, including housebreaking, carjacking, and possession of unlicensed firearms," Mathe stated.
Benoni businessman rescued during operation
The operation which resulted in the Mozambican national’s death, also led to the rescue of a Benoni businessman.
Mohammed Bashir Ahmed Seedat was rescued by police and private security personnel in the early hours of Thursday, 4 September 2025.
The 42-year-old was traced to a shack in Alexandra shortly after midnight on Thursday. He has since been reunited with his family.

South Africans praise police officers online
Social media users praised the police officers for their efforts in not only rescuing the businessman but also in apprehending a wanted criminal.
Koenehelo Yalezo stated:
“Well done, SAPS members, your hard work and dedication are an inspiration to us all. Keep fighting crime💪.”
Vikimpi Mngomezulu added:
“Wow, this is great. Congratulations SAPS. Our prayers were with the businessman.”
Mongie Mekgwe said:
“Now, lately, the police force’s dignity is restored. You are winning our trust. Proud of you.”
Romeo Iv Majoqo noted:
“It’s the third crime I have read about that's actually been solved this morning. SAPS are working really hard nowadays.”

There has been a surge of kidnapping cases in South Africa, but Briefly News reported that many have happy endings where the victims are rescued.
