Amid the ongoing Thabo Bester saga, a growing number of people are calling for help and support for his mother, specifically to address her damaged skin.

Maria Mabaso is featured in the Netflix documentary Beauty and the Bester, which explores her son Thabo Bester’s crime spree and relationship with Dr Nandipha Magudumana.

Pictures of the convicted murderer and rapist's mother ignited social media chatter, with the online community discussing her severely damaged skin.

As the debate intensified, many people accused Mabaso of failing to care for her skin. Valentine Mathabo became a voice of reason, offering to help Bester's mom receive assistance.

On 16 September, she took to her Facebook page to send a call to action to assist in getting Bester's mom the help she needs:

"I am willing to find a group of people that is willing to help Thabo Bester’s mom. May we please have a Dermatologist? I will donate with the little I can. This woman went through a lot; she tried lifting her self-esteem. You can imagine what she went through in her life."

With hundreds of shares and reactions, it wasn't long before a dermatologist allegedly stepped forward to assist Maria in repairing her skin, which had been burned by bleaching products.

As Beauty and the Bester continues to air, more people have come to sympathise with the criminal's mother, noting the apparent neglect she faced at the hands of her notorious son.
