In 2010, Zahirah Marty made the decision to relocate to Dubai. Drawn by the city’s reputation for multiculturalism, safety, professional opportunity, and its strategic location as a hub between East and West, she quickly discovered that Dubai offered much more than she anticipated.
“Dubai has always been – and continues to be –one of the safest cities in the world. That kind of peace of mind is priceless, especially when you travel as much as I do,” says Marty.
Safety was a major factor in her choice, and she points out that it remains a lived reality for residents. Everyday activities such as walking alone at night, taking taxis, or simply feeling comfortable in public spaces are part of her routine, and she does not take them for granted.

Dubai’s urban planning and governance contribute to this environment. Clean, well-lit streets, reliable public services, and a strong sense of civic responsibility are all part of what makes the city unique.
“Dubai’s attention to detail in every aspect of urban life means I can focus on building my career and nurturing my family, knowing that our well-being is always a priority,” she adds.
Professionally, the city has exceeded Marty’s expectations. It’s role as a global hub has opened doors to international campaigns, collaborations with tourism boards, and opportunities to blend creativity, travel, and storytelling.
“Within hours you can be in Africa, Asia, or Europe. It’s a place where cultures converge, where business ideas thrive, and where dreams feel not only possible but encouraged,” she explains.

The secure foundation is what makes everything else possible and is the reason people can confidently pursue their ambitions, raise their families, and invest in their future in Dubai.
On a personal level, Dubai has also been transformative. Marty’s son has grown up in a multicultural environment, surrounded by friends from all over the world. For him, diversity is part of everyday life, and this exposure is one of the city’s greatest strengths for families.
“Children here grow up with a deep sense of respect for cultures, traditions, and perspectives that are different from their own,” she says.
Marty also emphasizes that Dubai is more than its skyscrapers and luxury headlines.

“Living here for so long has allowed me to see past the glitz into a place with incredible heritage and depth. The warmth of Emirati culture, the hospitality that makes you feel instantly welcome, and the richness of traditions woven into modern life are what truly define the city.”
Dubai’s diversity is reflected in its lifestyle offerings. From adventure sports to cultural neighborhoods, culinary experiences, and wellness activities, the city provides something for every age and interest. Marty notes that Dubai’s affordability often surprises people.
“Beyond the luxury headlines, there’s a side of the city that is accessible, vibrant, and welcoming to all. Whether it’s dining, transport, or leisure activities, there are experiences to suit every budget.”
After fifteen years, Marty is clear about her decision. “Moving to Dubai was the best decision I’ve ever made. I came for safety and opportunity, and I stayed because this city has given me a home, a career, a family, and a true sense of belonging. Dubai isn’t just where I live – it’s where I thrive.”
