KWAZULU-NATAL – Harrowing details have emerged about the murder of a man, identified as Mr Mageza, who was fatally shot in the eMachobeni area of eNanda, KwaZulu-Natal.
The details of the murder came to light on Facebook, with Mpungose Media Production sharing details and photos of the incident. Mr Mageza, who was reportedly a member of the March and March movement, passed away on Saturday, 8 August 2026, a few days after he was attacked and shot in the area.
How the attack unfolded
According to a family spokesperson, Mageza would visit tuckshops he owned daily, where he would pick up the women who worked for him, collecting them one by one after they locked the stores before moving to the next location. He had already picked up one worker when he arrived at a second shop, where the situation turned violent.

A group of men descended on the scene, assaulting the female employee at that shop, throwing her to the ground and subjecting her to severe beatings. The attackers then dragged Mageza from his vehicle onto the road, struck him repeatedly on the back, and held him at gunpoint, demanding access to the shop.
The worker in possession of the shop keys eventually opened it under duress, and the attackers looted all available goods and stripped those present of their belongings. Despite holding Mageza at gunpoint throughout, they failed to take his car keys. A child was also wounded during the chaos, as gunshots were also fired.
Family questions police response
Speaking on behalf of the Mageza family, a spokesperson voiced dissatisfaction with how investigators handled the scene, noting that although detectives attended and discovered a spent bullet casing, they did not carry out their duties effectively.
The spokesperson expressed a desire for police to do their job properly, distinguishing the response of detectives and that of the officers who typically operate in the Inanda area.
Unconfirmed reports circulating on social media suggest the attack may be linked to demands for protection fees, though this has not been verified by authorities at the time of publication.
