LIMPOPO — A 19-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the murder of 43-year-old Mankweng businessman Tebogo Mothapo, following a multidisciplinary police operation in Mankweng Zone One.
The South African Police Service announced the arrest on 31 August 2026, confirming that police tracking units, working in conjunction with Tshimollo Security and Investigations, apprehended the teenager as part of an ongoing investigation into Mothapo's killing.
Mothapo was shot and killed outside his home on 16 December 2025. The 19-year-old now faces charges of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and robbery with aggravating circumstances. She is expected to appear before the Mankweng Magistrate's Court, where the farmer accused of killing two women in 2024 appeared after his arrest.
First suspect caught with victim's phone
The arrest of the teenager marks the second breakthrough in the case. On 20 July 2026, police detained 27-year-old Osama Azad at Ga Mothapo Tjatjaneng. Azad, a naturalised South African citizen of Pakistani origin, was found in possession of Mothapo's stolen mobile phone at the time of his arrest. Limpopo Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Jan Scheepers commended the investigation team for the progress made in the case.\
