Phakel'umthakathi Heads to QwaQwa to Plan September March on Illegal Immigration

FREE STATE - Activist Nkosikhona Ndabandaba, popularly known as "Phakelumthakthi," is making his way to the Free State to meet with residents of Phuthaditjhaba on Saturday, 5 September 2026. The meeting centres on rising community frustrations over illegal immigration and undocumented foreign nationals in QwaQwa, and will serve as a platform to finalise plans for a march scheduled for 23 September 2026.
Phakelumthakathi announces the meeting and march
Speaking from Eswatini, where he is currently visiting, Ndabandaba posted a video on his X account outlining the purpose of the trip.
"We will meet with the residents of QwaQwa to discuss how we will conduct our march. I will call on all residents to come out in their numbers to listen to the plans and discussions," he said.

He added that communities must take an active role in tackling issues that affect them and engaging government about their concerns.
QwaQwa residents raise alarm over foreign nationals
Community members say their concerns have been building for some time. Residents describe a growing presence of undocumented foreign nationals in the area, with some alleging that individuals migrated to QwaQwa specifically to avoid security operations carried out in other parts of the country in recent months.
Ndabandaba's planned visit is expected to give residents a structured platform to voice those concerns and to coordinate ahead of the march.
23 September march to pressure authorities
The community organisers said the 23 September march is intended to push authorities into taking firmer action on what residents see as an unresolved issue. Ndabandaba urged community members to attend the Saturday meeting in large numbers so that plans can be properly discussed and finalised before the march takes place.
Phakelumthakathi clashes with Nhlanhla Lux in Soweto
Previously, Briefly News reported that Phakel'umthakthi recently took his anti-immigration protest to Soweto where he encountered opposition for ex Operation Dudula leader Nhlanhla Lux. The incident, which happened on 26 August 2026, showed Phakel'umthakathi arriving in the township with the stated intention of forcing foreign-owned spaza shops to close. Police were forced to intervene after tensions erupted between the two men outside spaza shops in the area.
