GAUTENG — Lieutenant General Shadrack Sibiya told the Randburg Magistrate's Court on Tuesday that his arrest was the result of a deliberate and coordinated scheme against him.
The suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner appeared before the court on 29 September 2026 for his formal bail application, where he described the charges against him as entirely fabricated.
Sibiya is facing charges that include rape, child grooming, and human trafficking. He was arrested on Monday, 21 September 2026, at The Grand in Sandton by members of the Commission’s Recommendations Task Team (CRTT).

Sibiya denies all charges against him
During proceedings, General Sibiya's lawyer, Advocate Estelle Kilian SC, read out his affidavit, in which he addressed the charges. His affidavit characterised the case against him as a "diabolical plan," insisting the charges were false and trumped up.
In addressing the rape charge, the general claimed that he had consensual sex with an 18-year-old girl.
His affidavit also touched on the State's claims that General Sibiya had naked images and videos of a minor. The suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner claimed that the girl's father sent him a video of the daughter. He then forwarded that same video to the minor, and she later sent a second video of herself so that General Sibiya could 'investigate'.
The matter has been postponed for 1 October 2026. General Sibiya remains in custody.
General Sibiya moved to Kgosi Mampuru
Briefly News reported that General Sibiya appeared before the Randburg Magistrate's Court on 22 September 2026.
The State revealed that it was aware of reported escape attempts linked to the senior officer, leading to his move to a secure facility.
He was then moved to Kgosi Mampuru II Management Area, a large maximum- and medium-security prison in Pretoria.
