According to News24, former Claremont Cricket Club batsman Tristan Perez has been arrested for allegedly murdering his girlfriend, Elana Brooke. The 24-year-old was taken into custody in Cape Town following what police and sources describe as a domestic dispute that ended in Brooke’s death in Heathfield. He has since been remanded at Pollsmoor Prison.
Perez appeared at the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court on 1 April, and the matter has been postponed to 9 April. Police spokesperson Colonel FC van Wyk confirmed that officers became suspicious after arriving at the scene.
“At the time of the incident, she was with her boyfriend. Upon further investigation of the crime scene, police suspected foul play and this led to his arrest,” said van Wyk.

Police investigation into alleged staged suicide
The incident, which occurred on Monday, 23 March 2026, is currently being treated as a suspicious death. Reports suggest that Perez may have attempted to present the death as a suicide, although investigators reportedly did not accept that explanation.
Sources indicate that a recording of an argument between the couple played a role in raising suspicion among authorities, prompting further investigation and ultimately Perez’s arrest.
As seen in the post on Instagram below:
Brooke’s family has since released a statement expressing gratitude for the support they have received while calling for privacy as the legal process unfolds. They also thanked those who shared condolences and memories of Elana, describing her as someone who lived a full and vibrant life.
“We wish to focus our energy on Elana’s memory and the legal process ahead,” the family said.

Family reactions and cricket community response
Perez’s father, Martin, expressed shock at the allegations and extended condolences to Brooke’s family, stating that the situation does not reflect how his son was raised.
“This is a shock. It is not how he was raised. He is a sportsman who loves cricket. We deeply regret what has happened and extend our condolences to the family of the deceased,” he said.
The Western Province Cricket Association also issued a statement expressing sympathy following Brooke’s death. The organisation remembered her as a valued member of the local cricket community and a supporter of the game.
“Elana will always be remembered as a cherished friend of the WPCA family,” the statement read.
Claremont Cricket Club previously terminated Perez’s membership in mid-February 2026 due to disciplinary matters described as being inconsistent with the club’s values and ethos. In January, Perez had made headlines after scoring a double century for the club’s second XI.

Rising South African rugby star Bronson Mills reportedly appeared in court on Friday, 6 March 2026, at the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court in connection with an alleged assault. Mills handed himself over to police soon after the allegations surfaced and made his first court appearance in November 2025.
