Speaking to Fight Forecast, Du Plessis reflected on their shared history. The two first met in 2018, when Du Plessis won by TKO. Eleven months later, Soldic reversed the result, knocking out the South African to claim the KSW welterweight title in a rematch. The series remains level at 1-1.
Soldic's UFC 332 debut reignites trilogy talk
Soldic, 31, ended a 20-month absence from competition when he stepped into the octagon at UFC 332. Despite being knocked down twice in the early rounds, he recovered to defeat Khaos Williams by decision, announcing himself on the biggest stage in mixed martial arts.

The performance caught Du Plessis's attention.
"Soldic, for a long time, has been in many people's minds the best fighter outside of the UFC," Du Plessis said.
"Being the best outside of the UFC is not being the best in the UFC. We have seen that many times. It's on a different level."
Du Plessis waiting on next opponent
Before any trilogy conversation becomes realistic, Du Plessis is focused on reclaiming his place at the top of the middleweight division. He lost the UFC middleweight title to Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 319 in August 2025, but returned to winning form in July, outpointing former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman over five rounds.
Du Plessis indicated he expects to be back in action early in 2027.
"I had an injury. I was out for a while, but I've told them I'll be ready to fight early next year," he said, adding that the outcome of the Sean Strickland versus Nassourdine Imavov bout would likely shape his path forward.
