The world’s fastest man glided to an effortless win in his heat on Monday evening, clocking an impressive 20.19 to secure his place in the Olympic semi-finals.
As he heads into the semi-finals, Lyles is set to face strong competition, including South Africa’s Wayde van Niekerk, among others in the semi-final is scheduled for Wednesday, August 7.
The American sprinter currently holds the U.S. record for the 200-meter dash and ranks third on the all-time list.

Noah Lyles clinches the Olympic gold medal
The six-time World Champion clinched a gold medal in the 100m final on Sunday in a race that was decided by a razor-thin photo finish, with the outcome determined by just 0.005 seconds. Initially, television commentators declared Jamaica's Kishane Thompson as the winner.
Although Lyles emerged victorious, the current world's fastest man fell short of Usain Bolt's world record time of 9.58 seconds for the men's 100m. Bolt also holds the record for the 200m category 19.19, according to data courtesy of worldathletic.org.
The Jamaican's record set in 2009 is closely followed by his countrymate, Yohan Blake.
