Harry Kane scored four goals in Bayern Munich's Champions League opener to become the top scorer among Englishmen in the competition.
Kane and Bayern defeated Dinamo Zagreb 9-2 as the England captain overtook Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney.
The former Tottenham Hotspur striker went into the encounter trailing Rooney by one goal.
The England superstar has started the 2024/25 season well, with an astonishing nine goals in five games. Seven of his goals have come in the last two matches.

His tally for Bayern since he joined last year stands at 53 in 50 games. 12 of his 33 Champions League goals have come for the German giants, while 21 came when he wore Tottenham colours.
“Whenever you’re in a conversation with Wayne Rooney, it means you’re doing something well. He’s one of the greatest English players and one of the best players there was in the game. It’s a nice achievement,” he said via The Independent.
The 31-year-old won last season's Bundesliga's Golden Boot with 36 goals. However, the England star is still waiting for his first-ever trophy. Bayer Leverkusen pipped them to the league title last season.
Kane overtakes Haaland
Briefly News also reported that Kane surpassed Erling Haaland's Bundesliga records following his first hat-trick of the 2024/s5 season.
Kane reached 50 goal contributions in 35 matches with Haaland, the former Borussia Dortmund striker, who took 44 games.
In addition to his hat trick, Kane also assisted Jamal Musiala in scoring an opening goal just 14 seconds into the match. Since joining Bayern in 2023, the Englishman has now been involved in 50 goal contributions in just 35 Bundesliga appearances—a feat no player has achieved in the league since the 2004/05 season
