No debate has divided football fans in the last decade like Cristiano Ronaldo vs Lionel Messi.
The two are, without a doubt, two of the greatest footballers to grace the pitch, and it is hard to separate them.
Manchester United star Marcus Rashford gave his take years ago before he shared the field with Ronaldo.
Many felt the debate was settled when Messi won the 2022 World Cup, but that doesn't seem to be the case for Ronaldo fans. The Portuguese star has won everything but the World Cup.

Messi has won more Ballon d'Ors than the Al-Nassr superstar but has fewer goals. In 2018, Rashford said Messi is the GOAT.
“Some of the stuff that he does is unbelievable,” he said via Sportbible. “I’m a big fan of [Cristiano] Ronaldo as well, but I think Messi is the greatest ever.”
During the 2022 World Cup, after Ronaldo's unceremonious exit from Man United, Rashford hailed the former Real Madrid star.
"He's obviously one of my idols and someone I've always looked up to," he said via SuperSport. "So to have the opportunity to play with him is unbelievable and I'll take that with me and it's something that I can keep with me forever.
Ronaldo is 39 and hinted he could keep going, but it is unclear if he will play at the 2026 World Cup.
Buffon comments on GOAT debate
In another report, Briefly News reported that legendary Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon made his pick in the GOAT debate.
Buffon’s analysis emphasised Messi’s remarkable versatility, highlighting his ability to excel in various roles on the pitch. Renowned for his exceptional dribbling, precise passing, and playmaking skills, Messi has long functioned as both a creator and a finisher, effortlessly transitioning between midfield and attack.
In contrast, Buffon also recognised Ronaldo’s evolution, noting how the Portuguese forward has refined his abilities to become a dominant force in the penalty area.
