Jayden Adams has been immortalised as a Mamelodi Sundowns player on his newly unveiled tombstone, with an image showing the late midfielder lifting the CAF Champions League trophy in the club’s colours.
Sundowns Xtra shared the details on X on Monday, 21 September 2026, after Adams’ partner, Aqueelah Adendorf, shared photographs from his gravesite at Jamestown Cemetery in Stellenbosch.
Adams died on 11 July 2026 at the age of 25, shortly after representing South Africa at the FIFA World Cup. The official cause of his death has not been publicly released. South African authorities had previously urged people to avoid speculation while the circumstances were being investigated.

Aqueelah Adendorf shares emotional tribute
Adendorf was pictured alongside the couple’s daughter, Allaia-Jayda, at Adams’ grave.
She wrote:
“Just me and Allaia, standing where your name will forever live. We miss you more than words could ever explain, Jayden.”
She added:
“I’ll keep showing up for our girl, loving her for both of us and making sure she always knows how deeply her daddy loved her.”
In another message, Adendorf said she had never imagined raising their daughter without her father, but promised to provide her with “all the love, strength and protection” she needed.
Adams represented both Bafana Bafana and Sundowns at the highest level before his death. He played in all three of South Africa’s World Cup group matches.

Sundowns also honour Jayden Adams
Sundowns previously announced that Adams’ No. 8 jersey would be retired for the 2026/27 season.
The club said the tribute was “fitting” for a player whose impact on the “Yellow Nation” would never be forgotten. It added that the number would “forever carry Jayden Adams’ name, memories, and the place he holds in the Mamelodi Sundowns family.”
The tombstone tribute now adds another lasting connection between Adams and the club he represented.

Joshua posted a 20-slide collection of family photographs and memories, describing Jayden as “my big brother, my protector” and reflecting on the lasting impact he had on those close to him.
