Orlando Pirates' bid to retain their MTN8 title came to an end on Saturday after Mamelodi Sundowns beat them 2-0 in the final, played in Durban.

Teboho Mokoena broke the deadlock for Sundowns in the first half, and the Buccaneers had a golden opportunity to level matters when they were awarded a penalty in the 60th minute. However, Ghampani Lungu failed to convert, and Iqraam Rayners wrapped up the contest with a goal deep into added time to confirm the trophy for Masandawana.

Pirates' R1 million runners-up prize

Despite the defeat, Orlando Pirates did not return to Johannesburg without reward. The club received R1 million as the runners-up prize for the competition. Mamelodi Sundowns, as champions, collected R10 million.
