Former Springbok coach, Peter de Villiers, has been cleared of sexual assault charges in the Malmesbury courtroom on Thursday, August 28, 2025.

The South African rugby coach was accused by a woman of sexual assault in January of last year.
The Malmesbury Regional Court in the Swartland acquitted de Villiers of sexual assault charges after his lawyer applied to have the charges dropped earlier this August.
Peter de Villiers Cleared of All Charges
The National Prosecuting Authority charged De Villiers with two counts of sexual assault and one count of crimen injuria, leading to formal criminal proceedings in the Malmesbury Regional Court.

After the coach's lawyer applied for the charges to be dropped, the court granted the application on the grounds of insufficient evidence.
At the time the sexual misconduct allegations surfaced, de Villiers was serving as a member of the GOOD Party in Vredenburg, Western Cape. He was suspended from the party after a fellow member lodged a formal complaint.

In January 2025, de Villiers decided to join MK Party after his issues with GOOD party.
The news about De Villiers' charges being dropped sparked reactions from netizens on social media.
